TWO disabled pensioners were rescued after a fire broke out at their home in Yeadon today.
Fire crews from Rawdon and Idle stations were called to Woodlea Approach at about 6.05am.
A fire service spokesman said the fire started after a cigarette was discarded into a waste paper bin in a bedroom.
The pensioners - a man and a woman - were bedbound in separate rooms at the time.
The spokesman said: "It was a small fire in a waste paper bin due to a discarded cigarette after one of them was smoking in bed. The fire was confined to the waste bin."
Paramedics from Yorkshire Ambulance Service checked the couple over but they did not need hospital treatment.
