PASSENGERS travelling from Leeds Bradford Airport are being warned of possible delays and cancellations to flights due to strike action in France.

Industrial action by French Air Traffic Control staff is taking place a various locations across the country from 5pm today until 5am on Friday.

Passengers are advised to check the status of their flight with their airline before travelling.

A spokesman for the airport said: "Leeds Bradford are requesting that passengers due to fly to France and Spain over the next few days to check with their airline directly in case of any delays or cancellations to their flights caused by the French Air Traffic control strike.

"The airport will also be keeping its website updated with the latest information on any delays and cancellations as appropriate."

The disruption came as Ryanair’s chief marketing officer, Kenny Jacobs, visited Leeds Bradford today to announce its winter 2016 schedule, which said he said would help support 825 jobs at the airport.

The new schedule includes a new route to Gran Canaria, a new winter service to Faro, and more flights to Alicante, Krakow, Lanzarote and Tenerife.

Leeds Bradford Aviation Development Director Tony Hallwood said: "We welcome the growth in the Ryanair programme for winter 2016 following strong demand for flights over the last 12 months."
