A TWO day celebration of real ale is in full swing in Otley.

The town's annual fundraising Beer Festival got underway at Otley Rugby Club at noon on Friday, November 21, when visitors had until 11pm to 'wet their whistles'.

Featuring more than 60 ale varieties along with a selection of real cider, perry and bottled beer, the event continues - running at the same times - on Saturday, November 21.

Among those in early to sample what was on offer were members of Otley Pub Club, who sponsored their own barrel of Sunbeam Honey and Lavender.

Beers on sale this year range from a chocolate and raspberry flavoured Framboise, by Bradford Brewery, to Wharfedale Blonde.

A number of local and micro-breweries, including Ilkley Brewery, Briscoe's Brewery at Otley, and Pool-in-Wharfedale based WharfeBank Brewery, are taking part too.

Admission to the festival costs £3, which includes a commemorative glass and programme.

Proceeds will go towards Otley All Saints Parish Church, Yorkshire Air Ambulance, domestic abuse charity Behind Closed Doors, and children's cancer charity Candlelighters.

Organised by Otley RATS (Real Ale Tasting Society), the event has raised more than £70,000 for the church and local good causes since 2002.
