CHILDREN and parents are being invited to give their views on a park upgrade amid frustration over delays in the scheme.

Otley and Yeadon councillor Sandy Lay is inviting local families to comment on new plans released for Wellcroft Park, Otley.

The play area has been waiting for an upgrade for some time and now Leeds City Council has released plans to move it to the other side of a grassy mound concealing Yorkshire Water pipework. The new scheme aims to accommodate larger play equipment.

But Cllr Lay (Lib Dem) said the upgrade was now £50,000 over its original budget and the council has not identified funding to make up the shortfall.

He is now planning to meet with council officers to find a way forward and wants to hear residents’ views on the proposals which can be seen on his website at sandylay.mycouncillor.org.uk.

He said: "This has been a drawn out and frustrating process so far with too many delays. I stepped back from my involvement at the request of an independent councillor in the spring and nothing seems to have moved forward since then. I’ve decided to resume talks with the council’s parks and countryside department to see if we can move this forward again."
