AN INFORMATION session about dementia will be held this month.

Local Dementia Cafe co-ordinator Gwen Oates will lead the event at the Parish Centre, off Manor Square, Otley, at 2pm on Saturday, January 24.

The one-hour talk is part of the Alzheimer’s Society’s Dementia Friends programme, which aims to help more people understand what it is like to live with dementia - and how to help.

Having volunteered to be a Dementia Friends Champion, Gwen will be delivering dementia advice sessions to people across Otley over the coming months, and hopes to encourage others to do the same.

She said: “I signed up because I wanted to help others know more about dementia and share the knowledge I have learned since working for the Alzheimer’s Society.

“It’s easy to get involved - I signed up through the website and attended a one-day training course on how to deliver the sessions.

“I’m so proud to be part of a growing network of people helping to create dementia-friendly communities across England.”
