A FORMER secretary of the Wharfedale Music Festival died on Sunday, aged 89.

Robert Lantaff was born in Watford on November 5, 1925.

His first employment was in the Civil Service for seven years (Inland Revenue and Ministry of Labour).

He changed career to hospital administration, holding posts at hospitals in Watford from 1948 to 1954, Great Yarmouth from1954 to 1957, and Spilsby, Lincolnshire, from 1957 to 1961. He came to Ilkley to take up post of deputy administrator and hospital secretary, at Middleton and Grassington hospitals. He completed his career as administrator at Scalebor Park, Wharfedale Children’s and Ilkley Coronation Hospitals, taking early retirement in 1983.

He held several Methodist organist and choirmaster posts, including Leeds Road, Wells Road and Christchurch, Ilkley. He was a member of Ilkley Choral Society for 20 years and held the post of secretary to the Wharfedale Music Festival from 1971 to 1996.

Mr Lantaff's other interests included football and he supported Watford at professional level and Guiseley at a local level.

He greatly enjoyed visits to the theatre and holidaying in the countryside with his wife, Margaret.
