A FUNDRAISING first aid course is to be held at a primary school.

The event, at Ashfield Primary, Otley, will raise money to support local landlord Peter Jackson’s bid to get a new Public Access AED (Automated External Defibrillator) installed.

Mr Jackson wants to have the lifesaving equipment installed near the school, on Weston Lane, but first needs to raise some £1,250.

Guiseley-based First Responder with Yorkshire Ambulance Service and founder of the Global First Aid Society, Brian Firth, will run the First Aid course. The date is still being finalised but is likely to be at the end of this month or early February.

The three to four hour session will cover how to check if someone is conscious and ways of dealing with choking, to the recovery position, how to perform CPR, and how to use a defibrillator.

Mr Firth successfully campaigned to have defibrillators at Wharfedale, Aireborough and Horsforth, and offers places at £10. Money raised on the day will be matched by Otley Lions.
