A LARGE metal bicycle sculpture could soon greet visitors to Otley.
Resident John Morgan is proposing to install the artwork, which could have the town’s name included in its design, on the Leeds Road roundabout.Mr Morgan is offering to fund the design, construction and installation costs while asking Otley Town Council to consider taking on the insurance and maintenance duties.
Most members of the council’s policy and resources committee were happy to support the idea in principle at their latest meeting.
Councillor Nigel Francis (Ind, Danefield) was sceptical, and queried the size and point of the installation.
Councillor Mary Vickers (Lib Dem, Prince Henry), however, pointed out that Otley – home of the annual Cycle Races and of Olympic and Commonwealth medalist Lizzie Armitstead – was “famous for cycling”.
