A man is inviting people of all faiths and no faiths to join an Eid party he is holding at his local mosque.

Lawyer Tanweer Akhtar Shahid, 47, an asylum seeker from Pakistan who arrived in Bradford last April to flee religious persecution, has 33 guests on his list so far.

Mr Shahid, of Leeds Road, volunteers with the Red Cross and the Beacon project giving legal advice to failed asylum seekers.

He came up with the idea of the party as a way of saying thank you to the city for making him, his wife and son, feel so welcome.

“My family has decided to celebrate the coming annual Eid festival with our English friends in Bradford. It is a little seed of love that we are sowing. Hopefully it will become a tradition,” he said.

The party, by invite only, is being held today at the Ahmidyye Mosque opposite Mr Shahid’s home.
