Hundreds of residents flocked to a Jubilee-themed fun day in Wibsey on Saturday, after one planned for last year proved a washout.

The village fete, organised by community development worker Ian Brewer and 75-year-old Anne Jackson, celebrated all that is good about the ward. It featured a rugby tournament, youth football, a tombola, junk modelling, a tour of the community gardens, a fire engine and barbecue.

Speaking at the event, organised by Wibsey Urban Village, Mr Brewer said: “Everyone’s ecstatic.”

A highlight was Lord Mayor Coun Dale Smith planting a sapling to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee .
