Inquest opens after man, 59, fell to his death from Bradford bridge

An inquest opened today into the death of a man who fell from a bridge over a busy Bradford road.

Frederick Billingham, 59, of Sunny Bank Road, Odsal, was pronounced dead at the scene after plunging into the carriageway from the bridge over Manchester Road, shortly before 8pm on Tuesday.

The incident happened at the flyover bridge, but no vehicles were involved.

A police spokesman said they had been called to a report of a man having fallen from the bridge at Odsal Top. He said the death was not being treated as suspicious.

A spokesman for the Bradford Coroner said Mr Billingham, a divorcee, had died from a head injury. An inquest was opened for identification and funeral arrangements. It was adjourned pending further inquiries.
