Bradford group is fitting new door locks to keep criminals out

Anti-snap locks could stop burglars breaking into homes using a technique which started in Bradford and is responsible for one in four burglaries in West Yorkshire.
Social enterprise Community Action and Support Against Crime (CASAC) is urging residents with “vulnerable and cheap” euro-cylinder door locks to replace them with ones which meet a new industry standard created to thwart burglars.
Neil Goldup, chief executive of CASAC, which works with the police, residents and other agencies to improve community safety, said: “We are delighted that finally the TS007 standard has been introduced and that manufacturers are now developing door cylinders that meet these standards to combat issues around lock snapping.”
The lock-snapping technique used to exploit euro-cylinder locks originated in Bradford and has since spread across Yorkshire.
A police spokesman said the force had called for a new industry standard to make sure any locks were tested “as robustly as possible” before coming to market.
A Harden pensioner had a new front door lock fitted by CASAC after a friend spotted her previous lock was “vulnerable”.
She said: “He had seen a documentary on television and spotted I had one of those locks. I thought the lock looked secure, but I was told there was a way they could twiddle with it to get in. This lock is impenetrable and it gives me peace of mind.”
A CASAC spokesman said the lock cost £40 and could be fitted by the organisation for £75. For more information, or a free security assessment, call CASAC on 0845 519 2122 or book online at casac.org.uk.

I replaced the locks on my patio doors for about 20 quid each. I bought them from http://www.handlesto
re.com (I've no affiliation with this company. There are plenty other lock suppliers out there). The locks were a piece of cake to replace - it took me about 30 minutes. I don't like the way companies are using the local press to frighten and stampede vulnerable people into using their grossly over-priced services. And I'm appalled that the press are so gullible as to actually free advertise and promote these shysters. £75 for 30 minutes work? They're laughing all the way to the bank!
I also replaced all my locks with the anti snap/bump/pick type. I got mine from ebay for around the same price as you.
You only have to remove & replace 3 screws to swap each lock....simpulz!
CASAC.....charge double price for the lock, & 35 quid for 5 mins work....robbing barstewards.

Why is the T&A giving free publicity to these profiteers?
I bought a top quality lock from a specialist on Wakefield Road, Bradford who offered me sound advice and I changed the lock using one screwdriver in less than 5 mins.

I fit anti snap locks on a daily basis, yes it does usually take a few minutes to install but it takes a lot longer to visit the customer to measure the locks needed, and then go to the suplier to get the locks and then return to fit them. Then make sure the door operates correctly. if you dont know what you are doing there are several things that could go wrong if you are not sure what to do! I think £75 is a little steep (I dont charge that much) you also need to know what type of lock to fit as many of the so called anti snap locks CAN BE SNAPPED! If you have paid £15 to £20 then im guessing this is what you got. If you are planning on doing this yourself make sure you undo the correct screw and fit a sold secure diamond grade lock like the avocet ABS. Im not a salesman for this company i just fit locks that wont ruin my reputation. If you need any advise on what you need to do to fit safe locks to your doors give me a call you can find my number and plenty of advise on www.lockworks.co.uk i dont charge for advise :0) Rob

I used to but the locks I prefer to use have many different variations. There is an internal and external measurement. I used to carry 2 of each size but some kind persond broke into my van and took them. This cost me just over £3000. SO now I get them to order. It means more work but I dont have the worry of loosing my stock. The locks need to be registered with avocet to be able to get keys cut, this is why you should be carfull where you buy them. The locks I had stolen will not be able to have any keys cut. So no I dont carry stock of these locks. Also I used to carry stock of another well known anti snap lock only to find out it can be snapped in a certain way just as quick as a standard euro. So I can't sell them as anti snap knowing they arn't! There are very few locks which actually stand up to a snap attack long enough for the burgler to give up.
