Street sealed off after explosion at Keighley newsagents
8:28pm Wednesday 23rd May 2012 in Bradford By Hannah Baker
Damaged shutters at Airedale News, Keighley
A minor explosion was believed to have occurred at a newsagents in Keighley tonight after a blaze broke out inside the shop.
Part of Towngate, close to Keighley Bus Station, was sealed off by police after emergency services were called to Airedale News at 5.40pm.
The roller shutters of the red-fronted shop had been forced out of position and smoke was seen pouring out of the building.
Mark Collingwood, watch commander at Keighley fire station, said: “The fire was going when we arrived and firefighters entered the front and back of the shop. We made sure the premises either side were safe.
“There may have been an explosion inside the shop as there would have been a build-up of pressure.”
Fire investigation officers were tonight working to determine the cause of the blaze.
No-one was injured.
