The creator of Bradford’s very own Iron Man has been commissioned to come up with a re-make of his replica suit to go on show at The Royal Armouries.

Mark Pearson says he is burning the midnight oil to make sure his mark-2 Marvel masterpiece is ready for June 29.

The iconic superhero suit will go on display in a specially-built and illuminated glass case in the Hall of Steel at the national museum in Leeds, becoming one of its major summer holiday attractions.

Mr Pearson, 45, made the headlines last month after going public with his detailed home-made suit at Cineworld for a showing of the new Avengers Asemble movie.

News soon spread of the creation, which took him 14 months to make and is based on a 12ins model of Robert Downey Jnr’s super-strength character in the red and gold suit and helmet.

The car body repairer, who made the suit out of 400 sheets of cardboard covered in fibre glass and then fitted it with lights, gets his best pal Darren Higgins to wear it because he is too short himself.

Since his story appeared in the Telegraph & Argus, Mr Pearson’s phone has been red hot with invites to put in special appearances at birthday parties and events,.

But it was an e-mail from the Royal Armouries that he described as “a bit of a Hollywood moment”.

A Royal Armouries spokesman said: “We’re still putting the summer holiday programme together, but he’s making us another suit which will take pride of place in the Hall of Steel.

“We’re also going to have a robot-themed weekend on July 21 and 22 with BBC’s Robot Wars people coming, so we’re hoping Iron Man will pop in and see us.”

Mr Pearson said: “I‘m really honoured the Royal Armouries was so impressed with my Iron Man. There’s been a guy round already to measure up for a special glass case. It’ll be one of the first things visitors will see staring back at them when they go in.”

The suit takes 40 minutes to put on and another 40 minutes to take off which is why there will not be too many special appearances, but he said a visit to Bradford Royal Infirmary’s children’s ward was in the offing.

“I’m sure having a visit from Iron Man would be the best medicine ever,” said Mr Pearson.
