The bridge is lowered into place
Engineers were today lifting a new bridge into place over Manchester Road, Bradford, which will form part of a cycling and walking route.
The structure weighs more than 350 tonnes of steel and is 210 metres long with two main spans over Manchester Road of 22 metres and 24 metres.
It is supported by almost 100 piles buried into the ground and engineered to avoid any underground services and the Bradford Beck.
The central steel column is an architectural feature which reaches more than 17 metres above Manchester Road rising to a peak and embedded with coloured lights, which will be used by Bradford Council to advertise when an event is taking place in the city.
