A residential care home in Bradford will close on May 15 after the company that owns it went into administration, Bradford Council has confirmed.

Rookvale Residential Home in Carlton Drive, Heaton, has 19 beds for adults aged 18 to 65 with mental health needs and is owned by Shipley-based company Pennine Care Services Ltd.

After administrators were called into the company, Bradford District Care Trust, which has responsibility for ten of the residents is working with Bradford Council, the Care Quality Commission and residents and relatives to secure new accommodation.

Janice Simpson, Bradford Council interim strategic director for adult and community services, said: “We can confirm Rookvale residential home in Heaton is in the hands of the administrators, who informed adult and community services in April the home will close by May 15, 2012.

“Experienced reviewing officers are working with the residents of Rookvale, along with their relatives and staff to ensure appropriate alternative placements are found.

“Some of the residents are taking the opportunity to move out of 24 hour care and move into supported accommodation in the community.

“The involvement of residents and their families during this process is paramount as Adult Services are aware how disruptive and traumatic this process can be.”

An administrators spokesman said: “David Whitehouse and Philip Duffy, both of leading global financial advisory and investment banking firm Duff & Phelps, were appointed Joint Administrators of Pennine Care Services on March 5, 2012.

“The Company incorporated five care homes, of which one was closed prior to the appointment of the administrators. Since the appointment Duff and Phelps has been actively marketing the Company with a view to a going concern sale.”

The spokesman added: “At this stage we cannot confirm whether there has been any interest in the company but will be keeping all stakeholders informed.”

Pennine Care Services owns homes in Halifax, Bridlington and Scarborough. Mr Jarnail Singh Bassan, of Pennine Care Services, also operates Beechcliffe Residential in Park Drive, Heaton, with his wife as a partnership. It is believed this home will remain open.
