Party-goers braved the rain to enjoy a celebration at a Bradford allotments, marking the centenary of the site and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

Music at the Moorside Road Allotments, Eccleshill, on Saturday was provided by the Yorkshire Youth Concert Band and attractions included a barbecue, a face-painter and cake, plant and book stalls.

Cakes celebrating the jubilee and the 100th anniversary were enjoyed by those attending the event, which was opened by Deputy Lord Mayor of Bradford Councillor Val Slater.

Allotment manager John Parish said: “To say what the weather was like – atrocious – it was really, really well supported, despite the rain.

“We had marquees and as busy as it was people could get under cover, it was brilliant.”

Food left over was taken to the nearby Ash Croft Care Home.
