New plea in five-year hunt for missing Bradford dad

Missing: Sajid Saddique Missing: Sajid Saddique

Detectives are to re-interview key individuals who could unlock the five-year mystery disappearance of a Bradford dad.

There have been no positive sightings of businessman Sajid Saddique since Valentine’s Day in 2007.

Mr Saddique, then 32, left the family home in Heaton, where he lived with his wife Asma and their three children, then aged six, two and 11 months, to go to the bank and a business meeting.

He was last seen at 10.30am in the car park of the Asda supermarket in Manor Road, Shipley. His car, a gold-coloured Volkswagen Bora was found in the car park the same day.

Police have carried out a range of inquiries since his disappearance, including investigations in a number of foreign countries. Despite a number of possible sightings, none have been confirmed as him.

Mr Saddique’s family have said they believe he was murdered, but police say that, though they are keeping an open mind as to his fate, there is no evidence he is dead.

Detective Inspector Steve Snow, of the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team at West Yorkshire Police, who is now leading the investigation, said: “We are not in a position to say whether he is dead or not. It remains a missing person inquiry, though a complex one.

“There have been lots of unconfirmed reports of sightings of him, not only in the UK but across the world. None of those could ever be corroborated and there has been no positive sighting since February 14, 2007.”

Det Insp Snow said detectives would be re-interviewing key individuals already spoken to earlier in the inquiry. He said: “We feel there are people who we have spoken to before, potential witnesses, with vital information for the investigation, who, for whatever reason, have chosen not to tell us. We will be speaking to them again.

“We still believe the clues to finding Sajid lie within the communities of Bradford and we appeal to residents to contact us with the vital pieces of information we need.

“Clearly this anniversary is a key time for his relatives who still seek answers, as do we.”

He said it would have been out of character for Mr Saddique not to have tried to contact his family.

Det Insp Snow added: “If people are reluctant or scared to speak to the police, they can ring Crimestoppers and pass on information anonymously on 0800 555 111. Confidential information will be respected and all new leads will be followed as part of our ongoing search to find Sajid.”

Mr Saddique is Asian, 5ft 8ins tall, and of medium build. He was last seen wearing a white top, jeans and black Hugo Boss shoes or trainers.
