Police have released these CCTV images of two teenage girls they are hunting in connection with a “mean and despicable” street mugging of an elderly woman.

Detectives hope the pictures will help to identify the girl robbers who struck on a Bradford street in the rush hour.

The 75-year-old victim has been left afraid to go out on her own after she was attacked by the female thugs.

She was walking in Leeds Road, at its junction with Thornbury Street, Thornbury, Bradford, when she was approached by the girls, who snatched her handbag, containing her pension money, mobile phone and other personal items, and fled.

The victim was uninjured in the robbery, but very badly shaken and is now too scared to go out alone, said police.

The muggers are thought to have got out of a silver, five-door Volkswagen Golf with a sunsroof just before the incident. It is not known how they left the scene and police are keen to hear from anyone who saw the Golf in the area at the time.

The robbery happened at about 8.20am on October 30 last year, but police have only now released details.

A police spokesman said a number of inquiries had been made, but officers were now calling on the assistance of the public.

PC Donna Eastham, of Bradford South CID, said: “There is potential that others may have seen this happen and I would urge them to come forward and help us in our investigations.”

Anyone with any information, should contact Bradford South CID on the non-emergency number 101, or Crimestoppers, in confidence, on 0800 555111.
