People needing visas were queuing in inches of water after a burst pipe flooded the floor of the Pakistan Consulate yesterday morning.

Freezing temperatures which led to a roof collapse at the building in North Parade also saw disruption at the Candelisa People recruitment consultants underneath the Consulate.

Part of the roof of the consultants caved in and left the company without phone lines for part of the day.

Candelisa’s managing director Jane Vincent said that the cold snap had led to the pipe bursting. She said: “Upstairs they are walking in inches of water and are flooded. We are carrying on as much as we can.”
