Carers in Bradford who look after a loved-one with cancer could be missing out on vital support and benefits, according to research by Macmillan Cancer Support.
An Ipsos Mori report, which reveals for the first time the number and profile of the 1.1 million people caring for someone with cancer in the UK, found that just five per cent had received a local authority Carers’ Assessment which enables them to access practical, emotional and financial support with their role.
Just less that half surveyed receive no support whatsoever – either formally or informally – to help them look after their family member or friend with cancer. As well as emotional support, cancer carers administer medicine; cook and clean; and provide personal care.
If you’re caring for someone with cancer and need information or support, call 0808 8080000 or visit macmillan.org.uk/carers.
