More than 100 pupils from nine Yorkshire schools became diplomats for the day, debating how best to eliminate discrimination against women at a model United Nations.

Sixty countries were represented in the debating competition at Bradford Grammar School, which was designed to mirror the UN’s General Assembly.

Young people from schools including St Joseph’s Catholic College, Hipperholme Grammar, Hanson and Beckfoot presented views on articles of the Convention for the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women, adopted by the UN in 1979, before voting on a resolution.

In some religions, women have to ask their husbands permission to leave the house. I would say that is discrimination.

As someone who doesn't rely on the big book of fairytales as a guide to live my life I tend to respect women as equals.
More often than not it's things like religion that cloud peoples out judgement.

You will find there is.

Take womens rights for example. Whilst the modern world moves on and gives people the same rights regards of gender or sexual orientation. Religion is still in the dark ages, because it's based on a world several hundreds of years ago and a bunch of myths and storytales.

The catholic church don't look fondly on homosexual people and also don't allow women to be priests. I just thought I would point that out as you clearly though I was talking about muslims, who for the record also don't treat women with the same rules they have for men.
