Police sealed off a house and garden in Eccleshill, Bradford, yesterday after finding a firearm and ammunition.
A stash of suspected drugs was also found at the property in Musgrave Road.
The house was cordoned off and a forensics tent set up in the back garden after a call was made to the police on Wednesday night from a member of the public who made the discovery.
Officers who went to the scene recovered the suspicious items and the drugs were undergoing tests, said a West Yorkshire Police spokesman.
The incident was being investigated by Airedale and North Bradford detectives.
Nearby resident Aldo Matusevicius said the police activity had intrigued the usually quiet street.
He said: “There aren’t police swoops here every day. There were two police wagons on either side of the road and a white tent was put up in the back garden.
“There were forensics officers coming in and out. I don’t know if they were digging up the garden or anything was buried, but it looked as though they’d found something.”
Anyone who can help with the investigation should contact Airedale and North Bradford CID on (0845) 6060606.
