Bradford’s new Bishop will be enthroned at the Cathedral in May.

Exact details for the events on Saturday, May 21, are still in the planning but they will have pomp and ceremony.

A guest list is also being worked on.

The event is likely to be ticket-only because of the numbers of people who will be invited.

A spokesman for the Bradford Diocese said: “It will probably include a mix of formal and informal elements. Some of the historical traditions include the new Bishop knocking on the door of the Cathedral to be let in before the official service begins and swearing allegiance to the Queen and obedience to the Archbishop of Canterbury.”

This week Bishop Nick Baines was on Chris Evans’s Radio 2 breakfast Show saying he was looking forward to his new job in Bradford in which he will succeed Bishop David James.

He is an experienced media commentator and has been nicknamed the ‘Blogging Bishop’ because of his web blog.

He has said previously: “There is this single public narrative out there that many politicians and media propagate: ‘church’ means ‘empty pews’. Good news stories get filtered out because of this narrative.

“It needs to be challenged by people like me, not whinged about. That’s partly why I blog, because you can challenge some of these things."
