Students set to document changes as regeneration work starts

Dozens of students working on a media project about the creation of Bradford’s City Park were given a guided tour around the site.

Year 8 pupils at Challenge College and Titus Salt School learned about the city centre’s regeneration and are being taught filming techniques to create a film on the topic.

They hope to document the construction of the City Park, which will start shortly, as well as interviewing key people from the scheme.

Bradford Council has initiated the project through the Schools Linking Network. It is also connected to Bradford’s status as City of Film and the young people will work with the National Media Museum to learn about media skills.

Peg Alexander, City of Film director, said: “Bradford City of Film is all about putting film at the heart of the Bradford district’s development, identity and day-to-day life.’’ Councillor Adrian Naylor, the Council’s executive member for regeneration and economy, said: “It’s incredibly important that we document the changes to our city centre and what better way than through the eyes of our young citizens. This project is one example of the many ways that people are getting involved with City Park as we move forward to the vision of a regenerated city centre.”

Artwork that the students create as part of the project will be used to adorn hoardings at the park as it is constructed.

Schools, students, youth groups and organisations that wish to be involved in using the City Park as an educational opportunity should e-mail karenna.wood@bradford.gov.uk.
