Wibsey Park attack dog still on loose

Wibsey Park where the attack took place Wibsey Park where the attack took place

A dog-walker has been attacked by a Japanese Akita, which was last night still believed to be loose in Bradford.

Andrew Moorhouse, 56, of Delauney Close, Wibsey, was walking his cocker-spaniel, Oscar in Wibsey Park, Beacon Road, when they were set upon by the fully-grown male dog.

He said: “I noticed the Akita coming across the road, and it looked angry – it had a cone around its head as though it had recently had surgery.

“It just made a bee-line for my dog. I managed to get him into my arms and it attacked me, I ended up on my back in the road.

“The dog warden said he couldn’t help because we didn’t know whose dog it was.”

The dog has been seen roaming around Wibsey for around a week and residents do not know who owns it.

On Monday the Telegraph & Argus reported that there have been 502 dog attacks over the last seven years in Bradford, including 144 on under-tens, which resulted in patients needing treatment.

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said: “We were called at 9.38am on August 28 to a report that a man and his dog had been attacked by an Akita-type dog whilst walking in Wibsey Park.

“On attendance, despite a thorough search of the area, the dog was not found.”

It probably belongs to some Chav who can't afford to pay the Vets bill!
Its about time these kind of dogs were Illegal like all other dangerous dogs.
I realize all dogs can be dangerous if they want to be, but too many stupid people think they won't bite.
Only because it won't bite THEM!!!

People should not be allowed to keep animals if they are not going to look after them.
Too many irresponsible owners walk their dogs without a lead because they think that they wont bite, but they are animals and they are unpredictable! I met a couple walking an English bull dog with no lead, ours was on a lead but I commented on how irresponsible it was and the lady told me that their dog was not dangerous and didn't bite. I explained that if her dog came sniffing around my dog (who is not very good with other dogs) and he bit her dog then I would not be responsible because my dog was on a lead. The woman said "well thats fine!" I said she obviously didn't care about her dog if she thought it was "Fine" for it to get bitten! how stupid can you get!!

I got my dog because I woke at 3am one morning to voices outside debating whether I switched the alarm on at night.
He's a cross between a Staffy and a Lab, black, muscular and intimidating, a great big softy, who I muzzle outside shops out of consideration for others, children running up to him would get licked, not bitten, but their parents would think otherwise.
When in the park he's kept constantly on his lead but because of this I get bitten and scratched when other owners dogs approach.
It is unlawful to own a dog out of control in a public place.
If you call your dog when it's off it's lead and it doesn't return whatever the circumstances, you have broken the law.

i think you'll find it needs to be dangerously out of control in a public place !!! I used to see a young asian lad walking an Akita up and down Beacon Road, havent seen him for a while, or is that cos hes lost his dog and now he cant big it up ???

All dogs should either be put down or kept in zoos.

That is the most stupid comment ever!!
The dog warden is there to catch stray dogs isn't he?
So why didn't he catch it?
All dogs should be on the lead in the park where there's children,
The amount of akita's around wibsey is ridiculous, (the majority belong to dealers) they are often off the lead in wibsey park, I stopped walking my dog in the park 2 years ago because of this,
The whole area is goin downhill and no one cares.
And as for the comment about all dogs should be put down!!
Get an education child!!

No, they could be allowed but only under exceptional circumstances.

most of these akita,s are now owned by the aisian drug dealers who now walk around the streets intimidating people with their dogs, the reason is they get bigger sentence with a gun or knife, but not so much with a dangerous dog

I saw an Akita with a cone around it`s head on Buttershaw lane about 3 weeks ago, pretty safe bet it`s the same dog.
The dog warden service seems to be quite happy to wipe their hands of this dog, wonder what the reaction will be when it`s a small child that gets attacked.

It's only to be expected coming on the eve of two anniversaries. The first, in 1939, when the muzzies single handedly caused WW2 and the second, in 1752, when at the urging of the forerunner of the CRE, Britain adopted the Gregorian calendar and we lost eleven days of our lives. We have long memories you know. ;-)

Idiots arn't they. Much like lots of comments on stories like this.

All dogs should be put down, all dogs should be on leads? WTF?

How about we start putting people down, how about we start walking our children on leads?

Jeez Whiz.

The point wasn't that ALL dogs should be kept on leads, but that MY dog is, as a result of his intimidating appearance, and that as a result I get bitten and scratched by other peoples pets who approach and ignore their owners when called.
The very fact they bite/ scratch me and don't respond to their owners summons fully does, I think, fully illustrate my implication that they're dangerously out of control.

interesting concept:all owners on leads? how does that one go?.

Did this dog have a surgical cone on it's head:if so is there not a vet involved?

If not then why has the dog been coned like this:perhaps to stop it attacking ity's owners!!
