A Robo Dog capable of appearing happy, hungry or even bored was showcased at a university open day to give employers the chance to see work from this year’s engineering students.

Agnieszka Pieronczyk, 22, an Erasmus student from Poland, and Dr Darwin Liang designed the dog to have intelligent and adaptive abilities, that could be developed further.

Intelligent sensors and dedicated micro-controllers in the robot means it can obey commands such as ‘come here’ and ‘stay’.

Before the event, Agnieszka’s project supervisor Dr Liang said: “I am looking forward to the open day when we can showcase the Robo Dog and other electrical engineering students’ innovative work.”

The School of Engineering, Design and Technology held its Final Year Project Open Day in the university’s Richmond Building, and director of design studies Nik Hills said: “The show and projects are a credit to this graduating year and we hope by showcasing their work, their talents are recognised within the industry.”

There was also the chance to view work from graduates from Automotive Design Technology and Industrial Design in The D:UB (Design: University of Bradford) 2009 show which displayed the work of 13 students, including a Child’s Training Sink and an Amphibious Tour Bus.

The sink, which encourages children to wash their hands and develop hygiene awareness, will grow in height with children from two to eight-years-old.

The tour bus aims to be the ideal way to see the sights of London during the 2012 Olympic Games.
