Glamour queen with brains and beauty Rebecca Geldard is to compete for the Miss Great Britain title.
Rebecca, a 21-year-old York University student who lives in Compeigne Avenue, Riddlesden, is heading for the Café de Paris in London’s West End where she will face 11 other hopefuls on Tuesday, May 12.
Rebecca, also known as Bex, who already holds the Miss Aire Valley title, won through the heats in an on-line competition.
It was the first time selection for the 100 semi-finalists was held on the internet. In the final she will be scrutinised by a celebrity judging panel before the winner is crowned.
Rebecca, who is studying psychology and aims to qualify in victim counselling, represented Yorkshire and Humberside in the Miss Earth competition last year.
She said: “I am very interested in campaigning, and work with Jo’s trust, the UK’s leading cervical cancer charity.
“I love sport and music, have competed for my county in athletics, and play the flute and piano.”
The former pupil, of Skipton Girls High School, was also winner of last year’s Telegraph & Argus Model-search competition.
And last year Rebecca raised £500 for two cancer charities in memory of her mother who died of cervical cancer when she was just three.
The competition is sponsored by Vibe magazine and a spokesman said: “Miss Great Britain has been given a makeover to make it relevant to the modern world in which we’re living. With this theme in mind, for the first time ever, selections for the 100 semi-finalists have taken place online.
