Cyclist, 66, injured in road collision

A 66-year-old male cyclist was taken to hospital with serious injuries after a collision involving a car.

The incident happened in Huddersfield Road, Wyke, at about 9am today.

Yorkshire Ambulance Service despatched a rapid response vehicle and an ambulance to the scene. Police closed the road for more than two hours as investigators examined the scene.

A large number of bystanders looked on as the injured man was transferred to an ambulance.

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said: “We received a call at 9.10am from the ambulance service to a road traffic collision in Huddersfield Road.

“A red Citroen Saxo is believed to have been in a collision with a push bike. The man’s injuries were serious but were not believed to be life-threatening.

“The road was closed and reopened at 11.26am.”

A spokesman for Yorkshire Ambulance Service said: “A male patient was taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary. We were on the scene for quite a while.”
