£60,000 lotto cash windfall


Community groups and schools from across Bradford have received almost £60,000 in lottery funding from the National Lottery’s Awards For All.

Bradford Bridge Club has been awarded £9,500 to buy a dealing machine. The machine will improve players’ skill levels and allow older or disabled members to deal hands regardless of their dexterity.

Parkwood Primary School will use its £9,500 grant to run holiday activities and open access play sessions for children from deprived backgrounds.

Other schools which will benefit include Low Moor CE, Worthinghead, High Fernley and Shirley Manor Primary Schools, as they share £9,500 to provide breakfast clubs to help children kick-start their day with breakfast and ‘boxercise’ exercise classes.

EXCEED Beyond Expectations have also been awarded £10,000 to hold weekend and holiday activity classes designed to improve children’s fitness and confidence.

Another beneficiary is the Royal Marines Association Bradford and District Branch, which will use the award to attend the 25th anniversary celebration of the creation of the Northern Region in Southport.

More than 20 branches from across the north will attend the event which will hold a parade with marching bands.

The South Asian Women Health Awareness Association has been awarded £3,950 to set up workshops that train women to identify people in their community with mental health issues.

And Soul2 Feet, a dance troupe that works across Bradford and Leeds, has received a £10,000 grant to establish a rehearsal space where they can teach children and adults how to dance the samba and to develop a community samba band.
