Schools praised for drugs work

Bradford schools have been rewarded for their drugs education work.
A ceremony was held at Bradford City Football Club in recognition of the positive handling of drug issues by 14 schools across the district.
The schools have been given a Bradford Schools’ Drugs Preven-tion Initiative Charter Award for their holistic approach to drugs education.
The event was attended by Assistant Chief Constable Jawaid Akhtar, of West Yorkshire Police, John Brennan, the Vice-Lord Lieutenant of West Yorkshire, Councillor Howard Middleton, the Lord Mayor of Bradford, and Sam Preston, of Education Bradford.
The Council-backed scheme, set up by West Yorkshire Police, the Bradford Rotary Clubs and the Soroptimist International Club of Bradford, aims to motivate schools that conduct specialist lessons to educate pupils about the dangers of drugs.
The schools that received awards were Dixons City Academy, Oakbank, Aire View Infants, Hollingwood Primary, St Anthony’s Catholic Primary in Clayton, Cullingworth Village Primary, Hothfield Junior, Low Moor CE Primary, Aireview Centre Secondary, St James Church Primary, Belle Vue Girls, Low Ash Primary, Bradford Secondary and Byron Primary.
