STUDENTS from schools across the North descended on the University of Bradford for a “festival of chemistry.”
Held at the university yesterday, the event saw 48 pupils from 12 secondary schools take part in competitive chemistry activities.
It was organised by the Salters’ Institute, a national group dedicated to getting more young people interested in the subject of chemistry.
Each school, including eight from Bradford as well as schools from Blackburn and Hull, had sent a team of four to take part in the two challenges, a “Salters’ Challenge” and a University Challenge in the afternoon.
Each challenge saw the pupils have to use their chemistry knowledge and skills to follow instructions and solve problems.
In the afternoon they watched a live chemistry lecture.
Guiseley School won the University Challenge and Immanuel College won the Salters’ Challenge.
The Bradford festival was part of a programme which sees 53 festivals taking place in universities and colleges throughout the UK.
