A YOUNG girl was hurt when bricks were thrown at a bus.

The shocking attack unfolded on Thursday evening on Reevy Road West, Buttershaw.

In a post widely shared on Facebook, the father of the eight-year-old girl said his daughter was in "absolute shock, pain and distress". He confirmed she was "doing fine", but was shaken.

A First West Yorkshire spokesperson confirmed bricks had been thrown at a bus carrying passengers, causing two windows to shatter.

The service was withdrawn from the area for the rest of yesterday evening.

They added: "We have since been made aware of social media reports that an eight-year old girl was hurt and shaken as a direct result of bricks being thrown.

"We hope she is ok and not too affected by what must have been a very frightening situation.

"We very much regret the delay and inconvenience to other passengers as a result from taking this bus out of service due to this incident and the withdrawal of subsequent buses from the area, but hope people understand that we can only operate in an area if it is safe to do so.

"The police have been notified and we have secured CCTV footage from the vehicle."

Anyone with information is asked to contact police.

Councillor Angela Tait (Lab, Royds) has issued a statement following the attack.

She said: "I have spoken to First Bus and the police today about the recent spate of attacks on buses.

"There has been four attacks on buses (stones/bricks being thrown) in the Buttershaw/Wibsey area over the last three evenings and a car windscreen was put through on Halifax Road.

"Please report anything you see, 999 or 101  if you are passing by in a vehicle and see yobs taking part in such activities, please call it in to the police, even if you are not directly affected you might stop someone else from being seriously injured or even killed.

"An innocent eight-year-old girl was hurt on one of the buses yesterday evening."

Cllr Tait also urged parents to speak to their children about taking part in such activities.
