AN 81-year-old mobility scooter rider has died after his machine crashed.

The man suffered fatal head injuries in the accident, in Lawkholme Lane, Keighley.

No other vehicle was involved.

West Yorkshire Police investigations are continuing into the precise circumstances of the incident, which happened close to the junction with Bradford Street.

Police and ambulance crews were alerted at about 1.15pm on Thursday.

The road was closed for around three hours while the emergency services dealt with the incident.

Councillor Khadim Hussain (Ind, Keighley Central) said he was very sad to hear the news.

"The police have informed the ward councillors of the incident and I am assured they are carrying out an investigation to find out what happened.

"I understand the incident occurred near the bridge in Lawkholme Lane and that there were no other vehicles involved.

"It sounds like it was a very tragic accident and I wish to send my sincere condolences to the gentleman's family," he said.
