THE local branch of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament will celebrate the group's 60th anniversary at an event in Bradford tomorrow.

Activists will gather at Kala Sangam in Little Germany from 11am to 3pm.

Lord Mayor of Bradford Councillor Abid Hussain will open the event, and the morning session will be dedicated to history, and after lunch, to the present day and the future of the campaign.

Bradford has strong links to the campaign, with an article published in the New Statesman by J. B Priestley sparking an outcry leading to him and others organising the first CND meeting in 1958.

Participants are invited to contribute to a 'Bring Your Own Museum', which is being curated by the Peace Museum. There will be artefacts introduced by the Commonweal Collection based at Bradford University, including the original sketches for the CND symbol (pictured).

Old film footage will be shown, as well as highlights from recent years, and music will be provided by the Commoner's Choir, the Peace Artistes and members of TOPIC folk club.
