WORK to replace a manhole cover caused a major road into Bradford to be gridlocked this morning.
Roadworks by Yorkshire Water outside the National Science and Media Museum (pictured) caused vehicles to block the Jacob’s Well roundabout and sections of nearby Manchester Road, as motorists faced delays of well over an hour coming into the city from the M606.
The work has now been completed.
A Yorkshire Water spokesman said: "We had planned work on Prince’s Way this morning to replace a manhole cover outside the Jacobs Well Public House.
"There was a road closure so we could carry this out safely that was agreed with Bradford Highways and this work is now complete.
"We would like to thanks commuters for their patience."
One motorist said: “I’ve just spent an hour and a half getting from the M606 to the Hall Ings roundabout – it’s a nightmare. I commute into Bradford every day and I’ve never been caught in anything like it.”
