CROWDS in Otley have been transported back more than 100 years today at the town's annual Victorian Christmas fair.

Hundreds of people turned out for the event, which is being held in the town centre, with many donning 19th century attire including old-fashioned police uniforms and glamorous dresses.

A number of police officers also swapped their modern uniform for Victorian capes and wooden truncheons to get into the community spirit.

In the Christmas market, vendors all staffed their stalls in period costumes, and there was also carol singing courtesy of pupils from St Joseph's Catholic Primary School and The Whartons Primary School, both in Otley.

Other attractions and entertainment included live music and street performances along with a giant snow globe.

This year's was the 32nd instalment of the fair, which started in 1985.
