BRADFORD Council has ordered an eyesore pub which has become a magnet for fly-tipping to be torn down.

The state of the burnt-out former Tempest pub, on Kesteven Road, Holme Wood, has attracted anger in recent years.

The grounds have been strewn with rubbish, including mattresses, timber, kitchen items, bin bags and old fences.

It has been hit by fires since it closed down seven years ago and has become a hotspot for people dumping rubbish.

But a Section 215 notice has now been issued, ordering the demolition of the building in a bid to bring an end to the misery it has caused.

A report to the Bradford Area Planning Panel states: “The owner of the land submitted a notice to the Council Building Control Department in 2011 of his intention to demolish the building.

“No works were carried out to demolish the building; its poor state, resulting in complaints from local residents about its dilapidated appearance.”

It went on to say a site visit revealed the land and structure was a in a “very poor state”, with its roof missing, partly boarded-up windows and items dumped on the land attached.

“Despite letters to the owner requesting the demolition of the building and the tidying up of the site, no action has been taken,” the report continues.

“The Planning Manager Enforcement and Trees, under delegated powers, authorised the issuing of a Section 215 Notice which was issued on June 29, 2017.

“The notice requires the demolition of the building and removal of the materials resulting from the demolition.”

Around two years ago, the nearby Ryecroft Primary Academy petitioned Bradford Council to demolish the building.

It said: “We as a school community, parents, carers and local residents do care that this eyesore remains in our area after so long.

“We feel that it is disgraceful that our children must pass this on their way to school each morning.

“We also think, as a community, we deserve to have it removed as this would enhance the quality of everyone’s lives and make it a safer environment of our children.”

The report will go before the Council’s Bradford Area Planning Panel on Tuesday, where it is expected to be noted by councillors on the committee.

A spokesperson for Bradford Council said: “We authorised the notice to demolish the building and we are aware that a contractor has now been appointed to demolish the building.”
