Twenty-five charities and community groups based in the district have received more than £240,000 in funding thanks to the National Lottery.

The recipients, which include schools, sports clubs, and residents associations, have received grants of between £7,000 and £10,000.

These grants will be put towards funding projects aimed at improving the lives of people in the district.

One group which has benefitted from the grants is the School of Rock & Media, which has received £9,140.80.

The social enterprise, based in Little Germany in the city centre, will use the money to fund a creative workshop for young people.

Co-founder John Bolton said he is “absolutely chuffed” to receive the money.

He said: “We are trying to get across the message around internet safety.

“We started doing pieces of drama teaching young people to be safe, and some of the older ones started developing their own ideas.

“The money will be used for putting on performances on internet safety for the public, for a wardrobe and staging, and professional drama teacher Rebecca Sykes.

“It’s important this work goes on, especially as young people use the internet to express themselves, so they can learn to do it safely.”

Brighouse Myasthenia Gravis Association, Hilton Community Group, Ifive Academy, Keighley RZM Cricket Club, Keighley Victoria FC, Manningham Youth Association, and Undercliffe Youth & Community Association, all received £10,000.
