A “THREE strikes” burglar has been given an extra nine months in prison for trying to break into a woman’s home with a screwdriver.
Christopher Bower, 45, formerly of Glenroyd Avenue, Low Moor, Bradford, was jailed for five years in June after being found guilty of burglary and attempted burglary at addresses in the Low Moor area on July 28 last year.
Prosecutor Mark Brookes told Bradford Crown Court today that while on bail for those offences, Bower (pictured) attempted to burgle a house on White Lee Road in Batley on October 22. He fled after being captured on CCTV trying to gain access to the rear of the property by removing beading from a window with a screwdriver.
The court heard that Bower, who pleaded guilty to attempted burglary, had an “appalling” criminal record with convictions dating back more than 30 years.
The Recorder of Bradford, Judge Jonathan Durham Hall QC, said the offence was “fairly blatant” and added nine months to the existing sentence.
