A COMMUNITY will get together next week to remember a young man who died after being attacked in a local park while playing football.

Wednesday will mark one year to the day that 21-year-old Beyake Keita Ann was seriously injured by a gang brandishing machetes, sticks and baseball bats as he and his friends played football in Attock Park in Bradford Moor.

Organisers of next week’s event are hoping some of Mr Keita Ann’s family and friends will join them.

Mr Keita-Ann had come to England in May last year with his father and sister, leaving his mother and younger sister in Spain, to work.

He lived in Leeds but played football with friends from Bradford.

During the community day on Wednesday, there will be an under 16s five-a-side football tournament. Teams wanting to enter should call 07926 766959.

A bazaar, food, information stalls as well as a bouncy castle, inflatable slides, games, an arts and crafts area with face painting and Mendhi will also be there along with the opportunity to meet Mickey Mouse and Minnie.

Police, council and fire vehicles will be there for people to get a close look at. Bradford East Neighbourhoods officer Ishaq Shafiq said the community was pulling together to put on the special day at which Mr Keita Ann would be remembered.

“It’s something positive for the community since the tragedy. We hope his family might come to join us and that people from across the neighbourhood will come along to have fun and a good day out,” added Mr Shafiq.

The community event in Attock Park starts at 2pm and lasts until 6pm.

Police enquiries are still ongoing after a reward of £10,000 was offered for information on his unsolved murder. Mr Keita Ann died in hospital from his injuries three weeks after the attack.

An armed mob had been summoned to the scene by two Asian men involved in an altercation with the footballers after their ball hit a parked car.

To try and find the person or persons responsible for his murder, independent charity Crimestoppers put up the reward in March this year for information that leads to an arrest and conviction but it was only valid for three months.

At that time Detective Chief Inspector Ian Scott, of the Homicide and Major Enquiries Team (HMET), said 21 arrests had been made in connection with the ongoing investigation and a number of those men remained on bail as inquiries continued.

Enquiries are still ongoing, said a police spokesman this week. Anyone who may have information and has not yet come forward, should either contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 or HMET on 101, quoting 13160363829.
