CROWDS braved a wet start to enjoy a host of attractions at yet another action-packed Bingley Show today.

One of the highlights was a debut performance at the event by the Bolddog Lings stunt motocross team, who took to the main arena to perform a series of spectacular routines, some including riders jumping 75ft into the air.

The high-octane display provided a blend with some of the more traditional attractions which form a constant of the agricultural show, which is now in its 136th year.

The town’s Myrtle Park played host to a number of competitive classes including cattle, rabbits, goats, and poultry, with a sheep show providing a shearing demonstration and a guide to the different breeds found in the UK.

There were also vintage vehicles and a range of classes in handicrafts and horticulture, with the selection of flowers, floral art, and fruits and vegetables always a popular mainstay of the show.

For sporty visitors, there was an opportunity to watch a rugby demonstration by Bradford Salem RFC, or the chance to stretch off and take part in the Bingley Harriers 10k run, which this year, had a brand new route on public footpaths around Bingley and the St Ives Estate.

Showjumping was also again a key attraction, with top riders and their horses taking to the main ring at 9am before returning later in the day for the accumulator and a National Open Championship qualifier

The event is organised by the Airedale Agricultural Society, who said prior to the show that they were expecting a crowd of somewhere between 8,000 and 10,000 to attend.

David Hempel, vice-chairman of the society, said: “It was a bit of a wet start, but then thankfully the sun shone. There were big crowds for the Bolddogs, and they certainly seemed to go down well in the main arena.

“I think there were the biggest crowds I’ve seen there for a number of years. They are an attraction we went big with this year to give the crowds something they wouldn’t normally see, and it’s paid off for us.

“We’ve had a full park and a good turn out, so we’re very pleased.”
