A TOP stand-up comedian is one of the star attractions at this year’s action-packed Saltaire Festival.

Justin Moorhouse, who appeared in TV sitcom Phoenix Nights, will perform at a comedy night held at the Caroline Social Club, on Wednesday, September 13.

The ten-day event will take place across the village between Friday, September 8, and Sunday, September 17.

It will feature music and family entertainment in Roberts Park and Saltaire village, and a continental market in Exhibition Road on September 16, between 9am and 5pm.

Saltaire Beer Festival, held at Saltaire Brewery, will kick off proceedings on September 8 and 9, between 2pm and 10pm on the first day and noon and 10pm on the following day.

Roberts Park will turn into a mini Glastonbury festival on Saturday, September 16 and Sunday, September 17. Music will come from bands including Motion Complex and Waiting for Wednesday, between noon and 7pm on the first day.

Acts including Backyard Burners will take to the stage between noon and 5.45pm the following day.

Other festival highlights include children’s activities held in Roberts Park between 11am and 4.40pm on September 9 and 10.

The Organic Fruit, Flower, Vegetable and Produce Show will take place on September 9, between 10am and 4pm, at the Exhibition Building.

The festival’s final day of activities, on Sunday, September 17, will include Shipley Model Railway Society’s annual model railway exhibition. It is at Baildon Recreation Centre between 10am and 5pm.

This year’s programme of events was unveiled tonight at an event hosted by the Silver family in the 1853 Gallery in Salts Mill, Saltaire.

A new festival T-shirt has also been produced for people to order online, with all proceeds going to run the event.

Ros Garside, chairman of the Saltaire Festival Board, said: “We’re very proud of this year’s programme and I can’t wait for everyone to see it and start to plan their visits to the festival in September.”

The festival has taken place in the village every September since 2003.
