A ROYAL Marines Cadet has been named as the new Lord Mayor of Bradford's Sea Cadet for the coming year, the first Marines Cadet to take up the post.

Luke Wallace, a catering student at Bradford College, was appointed to the role at an awards evening at City Hall, hosted by the Lord Mayor, Councillor Abid Hussain.

Twenty sea cadets gained a total of 71 qualifications at the event, following a week of boating in Northamptonshire.

Luke, aged 17, gained promotion to Marine Cadet 2 and gained qualifications in basic seamanship and first aid, and three for boating and sailing.

He is also a key member of the Bradford Royal Marines Cadets football team, and helped the Bradford team finish runners-up in the Royal Marine Drills Competition, as well as taking part in the Remembrance Day Parade and Festival of Remembrance, and helped with community projects.

His Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Lynn Bullock, said: “Luke is a polite and likeable young man, well-mannered, disciplined and friendly.

"I am positive he will carry out his duties as Lord Mayor’s Cadet with maturity and distinction."
