VIBRANT colours of yesteryear were in evidence in Bronteland this weekend as Haworth pulled out all the stops for a spectacular 1960s weekend.

Soul, Tamla Motown, brightly coloured outfits, floppy hats and flower power provided the wall-to-wall 60s feel as classic cars rolled into town and Mods with their Vespas and Lambretta scooters showed off their gleaming chrome work in Main Street.

Music to entertain visitors included the Soul in Haworth group who were playing at the Black Bull in Main Street and the Old Hall, in Sun Street, over the weekend. There was also a special night at the Parkside Club, in Butt Lane, late into Saturday evening.

Live music was played throughout the village including from The Sheratons, The Rocking Beats, Silly Billies, Joe Gallagher duo, Last Orders, Eclectic Wizards, The Chessmen, Rebecca Lindley and Pretend Beatles.

There was also a display by Haworth’s Shine Academy dance group.

Thousands of visitors flocked to the historic village and were blessed with fine weather for much of the weekend. The sun shone as the festivities drew to a close yesterday afternoon.

Visitors, many in 1960s dress, enjoyed the attractions and stalls provided food and refreshments.

There was also a cocktail bar and children’s rides and a stall selling model cars of the era.

Others stalls were selling 60s-style handbags and accessories.

Organisers had said the event last year was a huge success and were crossing their fingers for a similar turnout of support.

Stephen Hogg, spokesman for the event’s organisers, said: “The committee members work hard organising the event for several months. I would like to thank them for their hard work and also everyone who took park in the weekend.

“We had around 7,000 people turn up over the two days and the weather was on our side too.

“The atmosphere was just awesome with people dancing around to the music.

“It made us feel like we were back in the 1960s.”
