A MAN from Bradford was one of two workers who died when a crane collapsed at a building site, police have revealed.

David Newall, 36, from Bradford, and Rhys Barker, 18, from Castleford, were both killed in the accident at a building site in Dunwoody Way, Crewe, on Wednesday.

The two men died at the scene and a third man who was also working on the crane was taken to Royal Stoke with serious injuries.

The 45-year-old from Glossop, Derbyshire, remains in a stable condition.

Both post mortems, which took place yesterday, concluded that the causes of death were crush injuries and an investigation into the circumstances is being carried out in conjunction with the Health and Safety Executive.

People have taken to social media to pay tribute to Mr Newall.

On Facebook, Leanne Holroyd-Tate said: “Sending love to both families at this sad time, RIP Dave I will miss you pal xx”.

Kimberly Fulbirg said: “Rip David will miss you xx”.

And Samantha Hinton said: “R.i.p David u will be missed and always loved. All my love go out to his family. Such a sad loss and so young. Xxx”.

A parent and child in a house damaged by the falling crane were taken to hospital for a check-up as a precaution but were not injured, North West Ambulance Service said.
