FANS of high-speed racing and technology will be able to see the two come together this weekend at a drone racing meet held in Pudsey.

West Yorkshire FPV racers are holding a day-long racing event on Sunday, May 28, which will see drone racers go head-to-head in a series of races.

The new-age sport, which has gained a huge following in the US sees the remotely controlled flying machines race along a set course, going under gates and through tunnels, taking tight turns and reaching speeds of up to 100 miles per hour.

Dave Sanderson, of the West Yorkshire FPV racers, is hoping the event will attract more people to the growing sport.

He said: "You fly a drone using a remote control and you have a pair of goggles so you can see where it is going.

"FPV racing stands for first-person-view racing.

"You then fly round the course using the specially adapted drones, some go really quick, my drone can get up to about 40mph.

"We race every weekend, and events are held across the country.

"The event is free so people can come down and watch, look through the goggles and talk to the racers who can help out people interested in getting involved."

The racing at Wild Grove Farm, Wild Grove, Pudsey, will run from 9am to 6pm.
