A BIN crew in Bradford have been praised for their honesty after returning a lost wallet they found on their route.

Mike Daly, 36, lost his wallet last Friday morning and after turning his house upside down, went out to his car to see if he had left it there.

Having been unable to find it, he was heading back inside when he heard a call from one of the refuse collectors who had been on Yardley Way in Low Moor that morning.

Mr Daly said: “I heard a call from one of the refuse collection guys who had collected from my street. He called me to advise that he had found my wallet in the street and had handed it in to one of my neighbours.

“My wallet contained all my bank and credit cards, £15 cash, my driving licence and £50 Amazon vouchers, all of which was untouched in my wallet.

“It needs to be said that having an honest worker like this that has handed the wallet in in order to ensure my wallet was returned to me is brilliant.

“People are always ready to complain about things and people, but I believe that compliments and good feedback also needs to be returned and credit given to Bradford Council for this employee.”

Mr Daly, who works at a law firm in Leeds and is expecting his first child this summer with partner Rebecca Jewell, contacted the Council to praise the bin crew who came to his rescue.

The bin crew who came to Mr Daly’s aid were driver Alan Roebuck, charge hand Shaun Cullearn and collector Callum Pollard.

Mr Pollard, 22, said: “I saw the wallet on the ground next to a car and knocked on a few doors to try and find who owned it.

“I just wanted to make sure the man got his wallet back safely.”

While Mr Cullearn added: “I’ve worked with Callum for a while and he’s a good lad. It’s good to get praise for being so honest.”

Service manager at the Council’s Harris Street depot Chris Goodall added: “It is always good to get praise from people.

“I am proud of the lads.

“It’s good that we can share such a good news story and that someone took the time to get in touch.”

Councillor Sarah Ferriby, the Council’s portfolio holder for environment, sport and culture said: “Time and time again our dedicated, thoughtful caring staff assist members of the public.”

She added: “This is a fine example of just that, their quick thinking ensuring the safe return of the resident’s wallet.

“They are credit to themselves, their family and the Council.”
