FOUR “crazy” motorists were caught on camera driving on pavements and going through a red traffic light in a matter of minutes in Bradford.

Another driver captured the catalogue of incidents, which happened on Midland Road in an eight-minute spell, on his dashboard camera.

The first incident sees the impatient driver of a white Audi travel along a parking bay, mount the pavement, and turn left into Thorncliffe Road.

Seconds later a black Seat reverses up Thorncliffe Road from the junction and then turns right onto the same pavement the Audi had just been on, on Midland Road, heading towards the city centre.

Moments after that, on the opposite side of Midland Road, a black Audi was driven onto the pavement to get round a car that was trying to turn right into Thorncliffe Road.

Further along the road - and after a black Volvo and an orange van were seen driving along a parking bay to beat the line of traffic - a blue Audi estate goes through a red light.

The Audi was driven up the inside of the car with the dash-cam, through the red light, before turning right at the junction with Queen’s Road.

The motorist whose dash-cam captured the drama said: “I just thought it was crazy. They are just impatient and they just don’t care about any potential consequences of their actions, like a kid running out of a driveway or something like that.”

He added: “I believe my words at the time were ‘it beggars belief’.

“There were three on the pavement in the space of time where my car had not actually moved an inch.

“Midland Road is notorious at rush-hour. Once they start queuing back to the football ground you get these idiots just suddenly appearing.

“I have near misses down there, with cars overtaking the queue.”

The man, 45, who did not want to be named, said of driving standards in Bradford: “I do a reasonable amount of driving in Bradford. The standard of driving in Bradford is horrific. There are cars whizzing around everywhere.

“I think it is steadily getting worse as the amount of traffic increases.

“They have already built more houses and they are talking about building thousands of houses, which will increase traffic. With more traffic comes more impatience, and more horrific driving. I don’t think Bradford’s infrastructure can cope with it all.”

Sergeant Cameron Buchan, who is leading the Operation Steerside crackdown on dangerous drivers in Bradford district, said on the Midland Road incidents: “Astonishing is one word, appalling is another. If that is happening to that extent, then some people are thinking it is acceptable to do it - and it certainly isn’t.”

He added: “We have already had a day of action down there. We are already on with Midland Road.

“In a way I am chuffed it is already on our radar, but I am also displeased and disappointed that stuff like this is still going on.

“That this sort of thing is still going on, with the focus Steerside is getting and the action we are taking, shows that Steerside is still needed.”
