A CHARITY Zumbathon staged in Keighley raised £600 to help sick and elderly local people make a pilgrimage to Lourdes, in southern France.

The two hour afternoon event was held on March 18 by Angela Fish, a nursery teacher and fitness instructor from Long Lee.

The money the event raised is being donated to the Keighley Massabielle group, which helps people who are too frail to make the long journey to Lourdes alone.

Mrs Fish, who runs fitness sessions at both Sports Direct and Workouts gyms, said the Zumbathon at Holy Family Catholic School's main hall had been a great success and attracted 61 participants, including some children.

"It went really well, everyone enjoyed themselves and had a good time," she added.

Mrs Fish, who herself travelled to Lourdes in 1997 when she was a Holy Family pupil, was helped on the day by fellow fitness instructors Melanie Watson, Gemma Austin and Donna Bilbrough.

The next main fundraiser for Massabielle will be on May 1, and will comprise a charity golf tournament at Branshaw Golf Club.
